Dummy announce new album and tour

Dummy, the Los Angeles five-piece, have announced a new album, do you love the color of the sky?, due out October 16 via Polyvinyl, alongside a run of new tour dates, Under the Radar reported. The announcement came with a music video, directed and edited by Matt Wells, for the album's first single, "Full Spectrum Dominance."

Guitarist Joe Trainor described the new single as the band's attempt at something heavier: "I was trying to make something just heavier, and we joked it was our nu metal song," he said, adding that a tambourine added during recording gave the track "a more dancey vibe, Deee-Lite meets Deftones." Vocalist and keyboardist Emma Maatman said the song, internally called "the Technofeudalism bop," reflects how tech billionaires treat AI as a new form of alchemy built on harvesting collective human work.

do you love the color of the sky? follows 2024's Free Energy and pulls reference points from Seefeel, Windy and Carl, Laika, Disco Inferno, early Bjork, The Sundays and Madonna's Ray of Light, according to the album's press materials. The ten-track record, whose lineup is rounded out by Alex Ewell, Nathan O'Dell and Lance Umble alongside Trainor and Maatman, was detailed the same week as a companion Stereogum report on the band's new label deal.

Dummy's newly announced tour runs 12 dates beginning October 13 in Fresno and closing November 4 in Los Angeles, with most West Coast stops joined by support act Golomb; the album's October 16 date is now on the release calendar and the dates on the tour guide.
