Dummy share April Limousine and Alluvial Fan from their next album

Dummy have put out two songs at once, April Limousine and Alluvial Fan, and they are the first two tracks of the album rather than a pair of loose singles. The record, do you love the color of the sky?, is due next month from the Los Angeles band.

That is a slightly unusual way to trail a release. Most bands lead with the strongest song and let the running order reveal itself later; releasing tracks one and two in sequence tells listeners how the album opens rather than what its single is. The single already came out separately: Full Spectrum Dominance was the lead, and Stereogum's write-up says the band went for it on that one.

Stereogum describes Dummy as playful, dreamy electronic rockers, a description that reads as a contradiction until the records are playing, and credits the band's 2024 album Free Energy as the point where they became impossible to ignore. Two years on, the follow-up arrives with a label behind it after the band signed to Polyvinyl and lined up the record earlier in the campaign.

The write-up also carries an unusually candid aside about how coverage works. Dummy's guitarist Joe Trainor works as a publicist, and Stereogum's writer credits him with introducing the site's staff to a lot of music they would otherwise have missed. It is the kind of disclosure most outlets leave out, and it explains some of the run the band have had in that publication.

The band had already detailed the album before these two tracks landed, so the shape of the release is now largely known: a titled record, a lead single, and the first two songs out ahead of it. The rest of the Stereogum piece sits behind a registration wall.

Dummy sit across two rails at once, which is part of the appeal and part of the filing problem: indie guitar music by instinct, electronic in method. Dates for the album and the rest of next month are on the release calendar.
