Fontaines D.C. have announced the largest headline tour of their career, 20 dates across 14 countries running through the autumn. It opens in Lisbon at the MEO Arena on 21 October, five days after their fifth album lands, and closes at London's O2 Arena on 27 November.
The European leg takes in Madrid, Barcelona, Bologna, Belgrade, Prague, Lodz, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Paris before the band come back for six UK arena shows in Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and London. Tickets went to general sale at 10am BST on 3 September, with a presale two days earlier for anyone who had pre-ordered the album from the band's store.
Dopamine Chamber arrives on 16 October through XL Recordings, produced by James Ford. It follows Romance, the 2024 album certified platinum in the UK, and is the fifth record since the 2019 debut Dogrel, a run that also took in a UK and Ireland number one with Skinty Fia in 2022 and a steady move away from the guitar sound the band started with.
The album was cut between London, the English countryside and Palermo, where Grian Chatten recorded vocals in a booth built out of mattresses and cushions. He has described the record as something done to the listener rather than for them. "The album itself is a dopamine chamber," he said, adding that you step inside and different mood-altering pieces of music get tested on you.
Ireland got its answer days later. The band confirmed a headline show at Slane Castle on 26 June 2027 with Hayley Williams, Damien Dempsey and Madra Salach supporting, then added a second night on 27 June after the first sold at speed. The 80,000-capacity County Meath amphitheatre has hosted The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Queen, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Oasis, Madonna, Metallica and Harry Styles over 45 years, and Fontaines D.C. become only the third Irish act to headline it, after Thin Lizzy in 1981 and U2 in 2001.
Both Slane dates fall on Glastonbury weekend, which leaves a Worthy Farm appearance possible only on the Thursday or Friday. No 2027 Glastonbury names have been confirmed.
The announcements came out of a festival weekend that had the band headlining Reading, Leeds and Electric Picnic in three days. They teased the Slane show by putting the words on the screens at the end of the Electric Picnic set, and debuted a new song, Happy For You, at Leeds.
The band file under rock and indie, the dates are on the tour guide, and the album has been building since they confirmed a fifth record was coming and released the single Marianne.
