Tedeschi Trucks Band played the Santa Barbara Bowl on 13 August 2026 and opened with a swerve, leading off with the staple Don't Let Me Slide instead of something from this year's Future Soul, which has been the usual choice on this tour.
The swerve did not last. Crazy Cryin' and I Got You put the focus back on the new album, and a few songs later the 12-piece band pulled out the Rolling Stones' Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) for the first time since 29 September 2023. Mike Mattison sang lead on it, as he did for all 13 versions the band played between June and September of that year. The song comes from Goats Head Soup, released in 1973.
Covers piled up across an 18-song main set. Bob Dylan's Tangled Up In Blue, the Allman Brothers Band's Dreams, Blind Faith's Presence Of The Lord and Santana's Soul Sacrifice all appeared, alongside the title track from Future Soul and long-standing favourites including Let Me Get By, Made Up Mind and I Want More.
The encore is where the night turned collaborative. Lukas Nelson, who has been opening for the band on this run and joining them at most of the shows he plays, came out with two of his own musicians for the first time: pedal steel guitarist Dakota Holden and keyboardist Eli Salus-Kleiner.
The three of them helped close the night with Helpless and Space Captain, both of which drew fan-shot video from the Bowl.
Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks have built the group around exactly this kind of night, a 12-piece that can play a new album and a stack of covers in the same set without either sounding like filler. Dates we are following sit in the tour guide, and more is on our rock hub, including Goose opening a West Coast run in San Diego and Dogstar on the Tonight Show.
