Johnny Marr shares It's Time from the album The Age Of Everything

Johnny Marr has released It's Time, the third song to be lifted from his album The Age Of Everything. It follows Spin and Ophelia, and keeps a steady drip of singles running up to the record's release on October 2 through BMG.

The video was built from live footage shot at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester on July 9, which puts the song in front of an audience rather than in a studio setting. That suits a track Marr has described as his way of singing about worldly issues while finding defiance in idealism.

He has been blunter about it elsewhere, saying the song is ultimately about people with dodgy views. Set against music he wanted to sound exuberant, the lyric is a refusal of cynicism rather than a complaint about it.

The album was written in London and recorded in Manchester, and Marr has called it the most cathartic record he has made. He has said the title arrived early and stuck, capturing a widely shared sense of technological overwhelm that still leaves room for possibility.

It follows 2022's Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, an album first issued piecemeal as a series of EPs before being compiled. Marr, the former Smiths guitarist, has also spent this stretch being pulled into public exchanges with Morrissey, which is a familiar background hum around anything he releases.
