Miley Cyrus has announced her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, due Sept. 18 through Atlantic Records. It follows last year's Something Beautiful and is her first release since she signed to Atlantic from Columbia in May.
The record runs to 10 tracks: Bass Persuades, Different Religion, Let's Get Married, Orbit, Aftermath, REDLIGHTS, Neon Signs, Innocent Ways, Snow and a remix of the title track. Two of them carry features, with the Boston dance-punk band Model/Actriz on Different Religion and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow on Neon Signs.
She explained the title in the Instagram post announcing the album. "Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on," she wrote, describing it as powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong, and covering every part of life between a full heart and heartache.
The album artwork is a photograph of her in dark makeup with a white rose covering her mouth, which is a considerable distance from the red-lit fur-coat portrait she used when she first started teasing the change.
Two Hollywood Bowl shows follow on Oct. 16 and 18, with Model/Actriz supporting. They are her first public concerts in four years, which makes the booking a bigger event than the venue size suggests. Presales begin on Sept. 8, with an artist presale and a general on-sale later that week.
The announcement came a week after the death of her godmother Dolly Parton, whom she had already paid tribute to on Instagram, writing that she would always love her and wanted to make her proud. Bass Persuades sits near the top of a crowded September on the release calendar, and it is the first substantial pop release of her Atlantic era, arriving in the same fortnight as Parton's death at 80 and shortly after the Hollywood Bowl completed its biggest sound upgrade in a generation.
