Miley Cyrus films the Let's Get Married video at the Chateau Marmont

Miley Cyrus has put out the video for Let's Get Married, the second single from Bass Persuades, and it is the most straightforwardly romantic thing attached to the record. Mert Alas directed it, and the whole clip was shot at the Chateau Marmont, the West Hollywood hotel that has been doing this job for the music business for about eighty years.

It is in black and white, and it follows Cyrus and her fiance, the musician and producer Maxx Morando, checking in and then not behaving especially well. The camera picks up the pair and their friends running naked through the halls, messing about in bed, dancing and drinking champagne, in the manner the building is famous for. Despite the title, no rings change hands.

Morando is more than a cameo. He produces on Bass Persuades, including work on the title track, so the video is putting a working collaborator on screen as much as a partner. That overlap is the thing the clip is built around rather than something it steps past.

"It's been less than a year since starting to create this album and now releasing it," Cyrus wrote on Instagram alongside a still from the video, adding that having a record keep pace with a life moving in real time and still feel alive is a rare thing.

The video went out on 17 September, a day ahead of the album. Bass Persuades is her tenth, the first credited to the mononym Miley, and the follow-up to Something Beautiful. She dropped her last name ahead of it and announced the record alongside two Hollywood Bowl nights.

Both single and album sit on the release calendar with the rest of the autumn pop releases.
