Miley Cyrus has released Bass Persuades, her tenth studio album, and the first record she has put out billed simply as Miley after dropping her surname from the credits. It runs to ten tracks and arrived on 18 September.
The campaign moved fast. She announced the album on 1 September and released its title track as the lead single on 4 September, produced by Kid Harpoon, with a video and a follow-up remix from the New York art punk band Model/Actriz. The single had already made a strong debut on the Billboard Hot 100 by the time the album landed.
The credits explain a lot about the sound. Model/Actriz take a proper feature on Different Religion and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow takes another, with Kid Harpoon producing across the record alongside Maxx Morando, Michael Pollack and Gregory Aldae Hein. Mark Spike Stent and Dave Fridmann split the mixing between them, and Randy Merrill mastered it.
"This album happened fast but that's been my life for 20 years," Cyrus wrote on Instagram, describing the record as a reflection of everywhere she has been and of the calm that came with slowing down. She has framed the title itself as being about what music does to people rather than about the bass.
It follows Something Beautiful from May 2025, and it is her first album under Atlantic Records. Her label says the record is meant to honour the influence of her godmother, Dolly Parton, which lands differently now than it would have a year ago.
The second single, Let's Get Married, got a video a day before the album, directed by Mert Alas and shot in black and white at the Chateau Marmont, with Morando in it. He is both her fiance and a producer on the record, which is the sort of overlap the video leans into rather than hides.
Two live dates follow. She headlines the Hollywood Bowl on 16 and 18 October, her first full concerts in the United States since 2021.
