He told talkSPORT there is no football tournament next year to fill the calendar.

Noel Gallagher has stoked the reports that Oasis will play again in 2027, telling talkSPORT that the band will need to put something on next summer.

He was on the station's Drive show on September 2 mainly to discuss Manchester City's start to the football season with presenters Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent. Towards the end, Goldstein asked him directly whether the rumours of more shows next summer were true.

Gallagher deflected first. "It's Liam, isn't it? He's not into it," he joked, before Goldstein pointed out that Liam Gallagher had just announced he was leaving social media. "Well, then there must be something happening," Noel replied.

Then came the line that will be quoted everywhere. With no football tournament to fill next summer, he said, the band have "got to do something." It is not an announcement, but from a man who has spent two decades refusing to say anything reassuring about Oasis, it is unusually close to one.

Reports have pointed to a major UK and European tour for 2027, following the Live '25 reunion run that ended last November. Suggestions include an extensive Manchester residency and shows at Knebworth, the site the band played in 1996, though nothing has been announced and no dates exist.

There is corroborating noise from elsewhere. Oasis have been named among the acts Coachella is said to be chasing for a 2027 headline slot, and the promoter behind Live '25 holds the Knebworth licence, which is the kind of detail that tends to precede an announcement rather than follow one.

Until dates land, this stays a hint rather than a plan, and the band's public output remains the documentary whose trailer has Noel asking whether it will fall apart again. Any 2027 routing would go straight into the tour guide beside the rest of the rock and indie diary.
