Paul Thomas Anderson's Cameron Winter concert film due in November

Cameron Winter's buzzed-about Carnegie Hall performance is getting a cinematic release. Janus Films and Criterion have acquired North American rights to Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, a concert film documenting the Geese frontman's sold-out December 2025 solo show at the storied New York venue. The film's 35mm theatrical tour begins Nov. 20, with tickets going on sale Sept. 17.

The performance was already slated to become Live at Carnegie Hall, Winter's first concert album, due out Oct. 9 via Partisan Records/Play It Again Sam. It features Winter alone at the piano, facing away from the audience while reworking material from his acclaimed solo debut, Heavy Metal.

Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson shot the concert on both 35mm and 16mm film, with Anderson and The Smashing Machine's Benny Safdie co-producing the project; the pair had been spotted filming the show at the time, though its ultimate destination was then unknown. Ariel Rechtshaid, whose credits include Grammy-winning work with Vampire Weekend and Adele, produced and mixed the companion album.

The Carnegie Hall set marked a milestone for Winter, who at 23 became one of the youngest artists ever to headline the venue's main auditorium, edging out Bob Dylan, who was 22 when he played there in 1963. The set included three then-unreleased songs alongside radically reimagined versions of Heavy Metal material.

Winter continues to work in two distinct modes: Geese's chaotic indie rock on one side, and the stark, piano-driven songs of his solo work on the other. Geese's 2025 album Getting Killed was named album of the year by The New Yorker, NME and Stereogum, while Heavy Metal also landed on numerous year-end lists.
