The Avalanches have announced their fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, due October 16 through Modular Recordings, following a run of preview singles including Blue Shadows with Karen O. The new single Can't Get Over Losing You, featuring Baton Rouge producer and singer Portraits of Tracy, arrived alongside the announcement with an animated video by Jonathan Zawada.
No Bad Memories runs 31 tracks and is the Australian group's first full length in six years, following 2020's We Will Always Love You. In a statement, the band said the record explores "the simultaneously magical and insidious ways that advertising and name-brand technology wraps itself around our memories," built from jingles and sounds from childhood that the group said have stuck with people.
The Avalanches, Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi and Andy Szekeres, built the record around an expansive cast of collaborators in the same style as Wildflower and We Will Always Love You. Chater praised Portraits of Tracy as a generational talent, and Portraits of Tracy said the collaboration felt right as soon as they connected, with work on the song starting in 2024 and wrapping in 2025.
The album follows the group's fabled 2000 debut, Since I Left You, and their 2016 comeback, Wildflower. The Avalanches played Primavera Sound Barcelona and their first ever show in Mexico this year, and they are set to return to New York for an October 22 show at Terminal 5 before headlining London's Roundhouse during Pitchfork Music Festival in November.
