The Avalanches have put Mike Patton on three songs from their new album No Bad Memories, and the Faith No More and Mr. Bungle frontman announced it himself. Stereogum's Tom Breihan reported the news on September 1.
The pairing is overdue by the standards of both acts. The Australian sampling duo are prolific collaborators, and so is Patton, yet the two had never worked together before this record.
Haley Joel Osment appears on one of the three tracks alongside Patton, which is the sort of guest booking the Avalanches have made a habit of across their catalogue.
The album is due next month, and the group have been rolling it out steadily rather than dropping it whole. We reported the release date earlier in the Avalanches setting No Bad Memories for 16 October.
It is the group's fourth album, and their first since 2020's We Will Always Love You, which itself carried a long guest list rather than a single voice.
The electronic duo's approach of stacking guests around sample collages has shaped a generation of records built the same way, and the announcement sits alongside other cross-scene pairings logged here such as Bonobo and Joy Crookes on Always On Your Side.
