The suit comes from Alvin Lewis, the bus driver who was behind the wheel when bullets tore through the vehicle after an Atlanta concert, and he is seeking damages for emotional distress even though no one was physically hurt. The central question in the case is whether Young Thug and Birdman paid Peewee Roscoe to carry out the shooting.
Lewis's legal team points to jail phone calls between Young Thug and Peewee Roscoe that they say show him seeking street credibility and being rewarded for staying quiet. Young Thug's defense counters that a $25,000 payment covering Roscoe's legal fees was simply help for a childhood friend. About five days before the shooting, Young Thug had posted an Instagram video aimed at Wayne with taunts and threats, tension the plaintiff's case treats as relevant background to what followed.
The bad blood traced back to Wayne's own business dispute with Birdman: Cash Money Records had been blocking release of one of his albums, and Wayne sued over the lost revenue, eventually winning a settlement of more than $10 million in 2018, three years after the bus shooting itself.
Peewee Roscoe originally pleaded guilty to gang charges in 2018 and was sentenced to 10 years, though Georgia's Supreme Court later reversed that conviction. He eventually pleaded guilty to RICO, gun and drug charges in the separate YSL RICO case in December 2024 and was sentenced to time served, a case Young Thug himself resolved with his own plea deal in October 2024. Judge Eric Brewton will now decide whether there is enough evidence in the bus-shooting case to send it to trial, the latest turn in a hip-hop legal saga that has run for more than a decade.
