Ella Langley's Choosin' Texas has reached a 20th week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, on the chart dated September 5, and that makes it the longest running non holiday number one the chart has recorded. The previous mark was shared by Old Town Road, the Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus song from 2019, and Shaboozey's A Bar Song (Tipsy) from 2024, both at 19 weeks.
One record remains above it. Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You has 22 non consecutive weeks at the top and picks up more every December, which means catching it is a moving target rather than a fixed one. Lil Nas X also still holds the mark for consecutive weeks.
The song's path has been unusually slow burning. Released in October 2025, it gave Langley her first number one in February, then broke wide open over the summer and has held the top spot since July 4, nine weeks in a row. It is also the longest reign on the chart by a female country artist, and it is number one in Canada, where it has spent 17 weeks on top.
The song comes from Dandelion, her second album, released in April through Sawgod and Columbia. Its success has been part of a wider country takeover of the American singles chart: at the start of August the genre held all five top spots, with Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, a Wallen and Langley duet and Stella Lefty filling out the rest.
Ubiquity brings its own weather. Asked on an August 23 episode of the podcast Sundae Conversation whether she was a fan, Doja Cat replied, "I don't know what that is." She expanded on an Instagram live stream, saying she does not care for country music, likes one Keith Urban song from 2004, and allowed that Langley is probably a fine lady with a pretty voice and an earworm of a melody.
Langley's answer was economical. She posted a carousel of tour photographs captioned "Ella Langley, What is that?" and left it there.
The Dandelion tour continues in September, stopping next at the Prudential Center in Newark on September 10. At an Alabama date she covered Jolene as a tribute after Dolly Parton's death. Langley has been the story of the year on our own pages too, from extending her No. 1 run on MusicRow's songwriter chart to a duet with Koe Wetzel on Jaded.
