Electronic producer Fred Again.. and Latin trio Latin Mafia began livestreaming the recording of their joint mixtape on YouTube from a Mexico City studio on July 28, Rolling Stone reported, with the stream set to run for three days until the project is finished. "Without a doubt, he is one of the brightest musical minds that we have met," Latin Mafia's Milton de la Rosa said of Fred ahead of the livestream. "It's been a crazy experience to work with him because he's a very talented person."
Latin Mafia, the trio of brothers Milton, Emilio and Mike de la Rosa, landed on Fred's radar after he became a vocal fan of their 2024 debut album, "Todos Los Días Todo El Día." He later hosted the group at his home in London, where they also began working with his close collaborator Benjy Gibson. "They're very good people. We love them so much. I would dare to say that they're close friends of ours," Emilio said.
Fred has been equally effusive about the group in public. "[Latin Mafia] are makin some of my favourite music in the world right now," he wrote in a recent Instagram post. "It's so beautiful but surprising but contained but adventurous."
The pairing builds on a relationship that began last December, when Latin Mafia joined Fred for the final show of his USB002 tour in Mexico City. Before that concert, they recorded an audiovisual performance called "Under the Fabric," which premiered at Mexico City's Cine Tonalá and now streams on YouTube as a preview of the mixtape to come. "It's very fun to make music with [Fred and Benjy], but it's also demanding in a way because we have to follow their rhythm," Mike said, adding that the pace pushes the group to work at their level.
The project arrives on the heels of a busy stretch for Latin Mafia, which has recently collaborated with or been spotted alongside Rosalía, Kevin Abstract, Dominic Fike, Álvaro Diaz, Tainy and Yandel, part of a run that also includes Fred again.., Joy Anonymous and Thomas Bangalter tied to a rumored collaboration on Fred's side of the ledger.
