Noah Kahan is credited as a songwriter on Stella Lefty's single Boston

Noah Kahan has a songwriting credit on Boston, the Stella Lefty single that climbed to Number Two on the Billboard Hot 100, and Lefty has now set out how that came about. She told NME, in a piece published on 26 August 2026, that the resemblance was never the plan.

The song came out in March. Its chorus struck some listeners as close to Kahan's breakout 'Stick Season', which NME dates to 2022, and he is credited on Boston alongside Lefty herself, Grace Enger, Jacob Hindlin and Joe Reeves.

Her account, quoted from a Vanity Fair interview, is that Kahan's team got in touch before the official release and she agreed without argument. "I don't want to step on anybody's toes," the 24-year-old said, adding that she had not been thinking about him at all while writing.

A second borrowed melody surfaced on the same record. Rolling Stone confirmed on 28 August 2026 that 'Summer You Were Mine', from her debut album Long Way Home, interpolates 'There's Your Trouble', the 1998 song The Chicks won a Grammy for Best Country Performance with.

Fans spotted the similarity once the album was out, and the listed credits at first carried no reference to the original. A representative for her label, Atlantic Records, told Rolling Stone that a streaming platform error had left off the names of the writers, Tia Sillers and Mark Selby. Both now appear.

The paperwork was in order well before any of that. Rolling Stone reviewed material showing the track was cleared through Sony Publishing in June, and that Sillers and Selby were listed in internal label documents in late July, before the album came out.

Sillers wrote 'There's Your Trouble' with her husband Selby, who died in 2017, and her other credits include Lee Ann Womack's 'I Hope You Dance' and 'Blue on Black' for Kenny Wayne Shepherd. "We wrote a bang up, awesome song," she told Rolling Stone, and said she hopes a generation that does not know it goes back and finds it.

Interpolation reworks a melody rather than lifting a recording, and Rolling Stone's publishing source describes it as a familiar way to break a new artist. Lefty's records are filed here under country. We covered her first album being set for this month and her Grand Ole Opry debut on September 2, and The Chicks came up again when Taking the Long Way turned 20 and got an expanded edition.

Long Way Home now lists Sillers and Selby on 'Summer You Were Mine'. Kahan's name was on Boston from the start.
