underscores has released "Unlimited Love," her first new music since the March album U, paired with a Frost Children remix of "The Peace" as the B side. The Chicago-based musician, whose name is April Harper Grey, wrote, produced, mixed and mastered the A side herself, the same way she made U.
"Unlimited Love" is not new to anyone who has seen her play. The song has been a fixture of her live set for a while, and the release gives it a studio form at last. The cover art appears to point at something called After-U, which the artist has not explained.
Frost Children handled the flip. "Thank U Frost Children I luv luv luv this remix so much," underscores wrote on Instagram, which is roughly all the comment the pairing has had.
The timing is built around live work. From September 11 she is main support on all twelve dates of Charli xcx's Music, Fashion, Film arena tour across North America, and on August 29 she plays Gas Works Park in Seattle behind Skrillex, on a bill with Dylan Brady, Nick Leon and Porter Robinson. Her own GALLERIA headline run sold out through North America, with rooms in Los Angeles and New York upgraded more than once.
The European leg was upgraded too. It opens at Le Trabendo in Paris on October 31 and takes in Glasgow's SWG3 on November 10, Manchester's Aviva Studios on November 14 and Bristol's Prospect Building on November 15, plus two nights at Electric Brixton in London on November 12 and 16. The second London date was added after the first sold out; Dublin's Button Factory show on November 9 has gone as well.
U, her third album, came out in March through Mom+Pop and carried the singles "Music," "Do It" and "Tell Me (U Want It)." Speaking to NME earlier in the year, she described trying to rebuild her relationship with making music on every record, and said the frustration of working alone puts something interesting into the work.
The single is filed under pop, electronic and indie, and its date sits on the release calendar. She had already shared a video for "The Peace" earlier in August, and Frost Children spent the same year mapping out a West Coast tour of their own.
